Pho from Magasin Table - photo by Dennis Spielman

Magasin Table

Magasin Table is a casual, lofty stylish counter served Vietnamese food restaurant with a modern twist in Automobile Alley. In this Uncovering Oklahoma interview owner, Leon Hoang, shares how the restaurant got started and talks about their fusion of flavor dishes.

I got a little artsy with the video. For starters, I placed Leon back away from the camera to do a soft focus background. The opening shot is of a sign, which I normally don’t record. There’s also a break in the interview to show various shots of the place. Again, just mixing things up.

Leslie and I both enjoyed their pho. It was great to warm up to as we had it at night after walking around in the district for the Lights on Broadway event. I have to agree with other people saying that it’s nice to see a Vietnamese restaurant in the downtown.

Patefacio

“Tasked by Professor DeRoot, Sam returns to the Overholser Mansion to investigate an item that was gifted to the Overholsers by George Grayson. The next day, the professor requests Sam’s presence as he found an entrance to the lost Chinese Tunnels. Learn what they find in the season finale of Tales Unveiled!”

We hope enjoyed listening to the first season of Tales Unveiled! This episode is different from the others in that it’s all story – no interviews. Yes, we do have plans for a second season, which we’ll start recording in the summer. Our goal is to travel outside the Oklahoma City metro for stories. In December, Jeff and I will record a question and answer video session, so if you have any questions for us about the show or just something silly you want to ask, reach out to Tales Unveiled on social media.

I’ve switched hosts from PodPean to a self-host PodLove platform, so it may take some time for the feed to update.

Tales Unveiled is a production of The Show Starts Now Studios and is produced by Dennis Spielman. The voice of Sam Saxton is Dennis Spielman. The voice of Professor Geoff DeRoot is Jeff Provine. Featuring Lisa Escalon as herself.

Subscribe to Tales Unveiled anywhere you listen to podcasts. Be sure to follow the show on social media and check out the website for news about season two! Of course, you can also follow me for updates.

Illuminations: A Northern Lights Experience in the Crystal Bridge

Yesterday my wife and I were invited to preview a take on holiday lighting inside the Crystal Bridge Conservatory before it opens to the public this Friday. Professional designers from Lightswitch, Toucan Productions, HYBYCOZO and used the latest technology to take the Myriad Botanical Gardens’ holiday display to the next level, beyond strings of lights.

The production company Lightswitch, with offices in Chicago, Hong Kong, New York, Orlando, and San Francisco, was hired to produce “Illuminations: A Northern Lights Experience in the Crystal Bridge” for Oklahoma City’s 30-year-old icon located in the heart of downtown. This light show uses nontraditional lighting techniques with the latest and greatest tools in entertainment technology to create an experience that can be enjoyed by guests of all ages. The display will evoke and enhance the personality of the Conservatory’s collections.

On the music end, Toucan Productions in Oklahoma City gives Illuminations another layer with the sound design as the lights work in sync to the music.

Tacos at OSO - photo by Dennis Spielman

OSO on Paseo

OSO in the Paseo Arts District is a taco shop with different tacos and cocktails than you’re going to find anywhere else in Oklahoma City. It’s nice enough to enjoy for a casual date night or drop by for lunch in your yoga outfit.

In this Uncovering Oklahoma interview, Chris McKenna, Executive Chef at OSO on Paseo; and Kindt Steven Myers, Director of Hospitality for Humankind Hospitality, discuss what you can enjoy at OSO.

My wife and I recently had a conversation about how no one in the city made cocktails out of coconuts or pineapples and we were both excited to learn that OSO does. It’s nice to see someone doing it!

Worked late yesterday to get this video done. Been busy with freelance work lately, which has been great. I’m still a long way from doing the live studio setup. Tomorrow, I’m filming a tour of the 2019 ArtNow show at Oklahoma Contemporary, which I’ll edit later that evening so I can share it Friday. Friday I’ll be at Creative Mornings, a Factory Obscura press event, interview for the new art exhibit at Oklahoma Science Museum, and taking photos for my holiday gift guides, which I’ll be releasing starting next week. Not sure what I’m doing Saturday just yet, but Sunday at some point we’ll be recording the season finale of Tales Unveiled.

In December, filming for Uncovering Oklahoma becomes difficult because of the holidays as everybody is typically too busy to be interviewed. I’ll be focusing on editing two feature documentaries of mine and writing for my books, which I have three that I’ve been bouncing between (they are connected with each other).

That’s what’s going on!
