Rachael Robinson recently relocated to Oklahoma City from Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked for more than eight years with Zoo Atlanta as manager and then director of public education programs. Robinson credits the support of her parents and the careers of female scientists such as Dr. Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey as her inspiration to pursue a career in conservation education. During college, Robinson started conducting educational tours of the Zoology department’s museum and volunteering at a local nature center. Through those experiences, she learned that her passion was more directed to teaching and inspiring others to love animals and nature.
Robinson received a Bachelor of Arts in zoology and environmental studies from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Master of Science in environmental education from Lesley University, Audubon Expedition Institute, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Robinson is a regular Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) conference presenter; a Co-Chair of AZA’s Volunteer Management Committee; and a certified interpretive guide and certified interpretive trainer through the National Association for Interpretation.
Showing that science is for everyone, “Yes! Science!” is my new science documentary and demonstration series that features a rotating roster of women and minority individuals in STEM fields. Videos discuss topics of science, career profiles, and fun experiments. Think of the show as a documentary series crossed with TED Talks and Bill Nye.
To kick off the series is a profile video on Dr. Elaine Hamm.
Currently, Dr. Elaine Hamm manages the research and operations of a portfolio of startup biotechnology companies alongside an experienced team at Accele BioPharma and Accele Venture Partners, a biotechnology accelerator and venture fund that identifies, funds, and manages early-stage life science companies.
Dr. Hamm has eight years of professional leadership experience in the commercialization of early-stage pharmaceutical therapeutics and diagnostics with expertise in technology transfer, market analysis, and commercialization of preclinical and clinical stage products. She has designed and served as the Director for several start-up accelerator programs. Dr. Hamm also has experience in equity and non-equity funding of early-stage companies and, in three years, closed almost $8M in equity investment deals, with a focus in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to her commercialization experience, Dr. Hamm has also worked a Senior Protein chemist in discovery and pre-clinical development of new chemical entities. Dr. Hamm received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Oklahoma and holds several licensed US and International patents.
Yes Science! is my new documentary and science show that highlights women in various STEM fields. Think of it as a cross between a TED Talk and Bill Nye.
I’ve filmed the first three episodes with Katrina Menard, Jennifer Larsen, and Tamaki Yuri from the Sam Noble Museum in Norman, Oklahoma. I have yet to edit them. The plan is to edit this first batch videos, get feedback on them, and possibly re-shot if needed. Once those are done, I’ll start filming more. Since this is a new project and I’m using a different setup, I want to make sure everything is good.
